Choosing between non-coated paper without wood pulp and glossy coated paper is difficult. Not because there is not enough paper to choose from, but because the two papers are very similar in quality, what is often overlooked in this field is translucent paper. Translucent paper is widely used and is now widely used in certificates, notices, inserts, commercial cards, direct mail, invitations, menus, etc.
Translucent paper performance
Translucent paper is different from ordinary paper, its printing effect is peculiar. It can make the printed graphic information clearer, the product more mysterious, and the appearance packaging more attractive. Translucent paper is usually stiffer and firmer than uncoated paper without wood pulp. In the papermaking process, translucent paper is easy to dry, it contains more fibers, and the filler is very little, so the transparency is very good, but because of its unique papermaking and drying method, so few manufacturers Therefore, the price is relatively expensive.
Translucent paper printing suitability
For translucent paper, the main printing method is offset printing. The number of printed lines should be controlled at 133 ~ 150dpi, the maximum can not exceed 200dpi. Like ordinary paper, the printing environment of translucent paper is best controlled at a relative humidity of 50% and a temperature of 24 ° C. If the translucent paper is pre-placed in an environment without temperature and humidity control, it should be placed in a pre-adjusted temperature and humidity environment for 24 hours or longer when transported to the printing workshop. Translucent paper should keep the paper ventilated when it is not loaded. It should be wrapped in plastic bags during transportation and covered when not in use to prevent the paper from being contaminated or causing water loss.
Like plastic film, the drying method of ink used for translucent paper printing is oxidative conjunctiva drying, not permeation drying, so it is best to use quick-drying ink. But avoid using high-temperature drying techniques, such as infrared drying, because translucent paper is easier to curl than ordinary paper. Before the official printing, the test ink is generally used for proofing, and the use of general-purpose ink may increase the drying time by one week. The under-color removal technique can reduce the drying time.
In order to prevent the extension of the ink drying time or the deformation of the paper, the ink in the oil-in-water state should be minimized as much as possible. The amount of wetting can also be reduced by controlling the pH of the fountain solution at 5 to 6, and the amount of ethanol increased to 13. ~ 15% to reduce the amount of water on the printing plate, but these methods must be strictly controlled so as not to change the performance of the ink.
In order to prevent the back of the translucent paper from being smeared during printing, a powder with a fineness of 15-20 μm can be sprayed on it. After printing, a layer of UV varnish can be printed on it to increase the gloss of the printed product, but avoid it Use water-based emulsion varnish, and only print after the ink is dry.
When using translucent paper for printing, the amount of paper loaded and the amount of paper collected should be as small as possible. After printing, the printed products should be sorted into small piles of paper for storage.
Post-press processing of translucent paper
In the specific use process, the technology of semi-transparent paper in folding, creasing, and punching process is not very mature. The translucent paper is prone to cracks when folded, and it is not easy to get through when punching. The reason is that the high fiber content makes the paper harder and more brittle. Therefore, double-sided inspection and proofing should be performed before the product is printed to avoid wasting paper.
When cutting, use a 30 ° blunt cutter, because the new cutter may immediately cause cracks in the paper. A pattern paper system is required for creasing and folding, because the hard creasing line will cause the translucent paper to crack when folding. In addition, when folding a single sheet of paper, it should be along the direction of the fiber to reduce the possibility of cracks when folding.
